Your WAW Decors wallpaper has arrived, and you’re ready to transform your space. Whether you chose our Fabric Peel & Stick or the Smooth 3M Graphic Film, the installation process is designed to be straightforward. To ensure a professional result, we have designed our products with a specific overlap to ensure a seamless installation every time.
Tools You’ll Need
Tape measure and pencil
Level (a 4-foot level is ideal)
Sharp utility knife or craft knife
Plastic smoother or squeegee
Clean, dry cloth
A helper (recommended for longer strips)
Before You Start: Wall Preparation
Your wall must be clean, dry, and smooth. Wipe the surface to remove dust and allow it to dry fully. For freshly painted walls, wait a minimum of 4 weeks for the paint to fully cure; applying too early can cause adhesion problems or damage the wall during future removal.
Step 1: Mark Your Guide Line
Measure out from the corner a distance equal to the width of your roll and use your level to draw a perfectly vertical plumb line. Never align your first strip to the corner, as walls are rarely perfectly square.
Step 2: The Crucial Overlap Technique
At WAW Decors, we print our panels with a deliberate 1-inch overlap. When you install the next panel, the edges should overlap the previous one by exactly one inch.
Why is the overlap necessary?
Image Continuity: It helps maintain the alignment of the design and prevents visible gaps between panels.
Environmental Protection: The overlap acts as a precautionary measure against panel movement caused by temperature changes or humidity.
Anti-Shrinkage: Peel and stick materials can contract slightly over time; keeping the overlap ensures that no seams appear if the material shrinks.
Important Note: We do not recommend removing or "double-cutting" the overlap for any Peel & Stick wallpaper. Keeping the overlap intact is especially vital on textured walls to prevent buckling or peeling.
Step 3: Smooth and Stick
Peel the backing away from only the top 12–15 inches. Position the strip at the ceiling, aligning the edge to your guide line. Work from the center outward with your smoother to push air bubbles toward the edges. Do not stretch the material, as this distorts the pattern.
Step 4: Trim the Edges
Once all strips are hung, use a sharp utility knife to trim the excess at the ceiling and baseboards. Change your blade frequently to ensure clean cuts without tearing the material.
Still Not Sure?
Our team is here to help! By following these guidelines and keeping the overlap intact, you can achieve a flawless, professional installation that enhances the beauty of your space for years to come.
